East West Council for Education

The East West Council for Education (EWCE) accomplishes its mission through EWCE Affiliate Educational Institutions. Affiliates are colleges and universities, institutes and centers that support the Mission of the EWCE and have been designated by the EWCE board.

The concept of EWCE affiliation allows both the EWCE and the Affiliate Educational Institution to multiply the effectiveness of efforts at East-West relations by building a dynamic interactive network. This networking is designed to be of significant mutual benefit to all of EWCE’s affiliations.

The function of an EWCE Affiliate is simple but vital. An EWCE Affiliate helps verify that EWCE grant applicants will be exemplary foreign students. An Affiliate can perform this function in a number of ways, such as encouraging their outstanding students who wish to study abroad to apply for EWCE grants.

In addition, EWCE will provide grants to scholars through EWCE Affiliate Institutions to participate in events related to EWCE’s mission. In this way, the network and financial resources of the EWCE are available in support of our Affiliate’s scholars – and all benefit. The Affiliate opens a new international portal to potential participants while EWCE obtains further exposure for its mission of enhanced East-West relations.

In addition to providing financial support to event participants, EWCE will provide direct sponsorship of events. For further information, refer to EWCE Sponsorships. Such events produced by an EWCE Affiliate can be promoted on the EWCE’s website (www.ewce.org).

HOW DOES MY INSTITUTION BECOME AN EWCE AFFILIATE?:

Any college, university, institute or center that supports the Mission of the EWCE and can act as a conduit of information for their students who wish to study in a foreign country or who have been awarded EWCE grants may apply to become an affiliate. If your institution wishes to become an EWCE Affiliate, complete the EWCE Affiliate Educational Institution Application and Agreement form at the link below. The application requires the signature of an Official of your institution, such as the University President, Director of the Research Center or Program, Dean of the College, or Chairperson of the Department. The signatory must have the authority to act on behalf of the affiliate in executing the terms of the EWCE Affiliate Educational Institution Agreement.

EWCE Affiliate Educational Institution Agreement

The EWCE Affiliate Educational Institution Application and Agreement includes an EWCE Affiliate Educational Institution Agreement that outlines the terms of the affiliation to be signed by the appropriate official of the prospective affiliate. Upon acceptance by the EWCE Board of Directors, the Board President will execute the agreement with his or her signature and a fully executed agreement will be sent to the new affiliate. The intent of the agreement is to provide mutual benefit, and does not obligate the parties to any financial liability. It may be terminated at any time.

The Affiliate agrees to:

support the mission of the EWCE as outlined on the EWCE website
be a nonprofit charitable organization complying with requirements of the Internal Revenue Service as a charitable organization
have available for its students information about the EWCE and its grants program
validate all information provided on applications to EWCE
provide updated name and contact information for all person who will certify the validity of all applicants and applications
receive and forward to the grant recipients, those funds disbursed to the Affiliate by EWCE
allow EWCE to acknowledge the affiliation on its website and in promotion of its mission
provide reports to EWCE on a regular basis regarding the receipt and distribution of EWCE funds

REQUESTING EWCE’S PARTICIPATION AS A SPONSOR

In addition to providing grants to individuals through our Affiliates, the East West Council for Education sponsors various programs, conferences and symposia supporting the Mission of the EWCE. EWCE will consider various kinds of sponsorships, from offering use of our name in support of the event to providing financial support as a co-sponsor or sponsor of individual elements of the event, such as speakers, meals or coffee breaks.

EWCE will consider sponsoring events produced or co-sponsored by an EWCE Affiliate Educational Institution. As a sponsoring entity, EWCE will include the event on our website calendar and in promotional materials as appropriate.
